# solstone > solstone is a personal memory platform. the solstone app takes in what you share with it, and all of it goes into your journal. your journal is always private, only yours. open source, made by sol pbc. the journal lives on x86_64 (Intel or AMD) or arm64 linux, and in the journal app on arm64 (Apple silicon) macs running macos 15 or later. on an x86_64 (Intel or AMD) PC running windows 10 (22H2) or 11, the journal is its own per-user install: download https://solstone.app/download/journal/windows/latest, run it, then open journal from the Start menu to set up your journal. on linux, the journal ships as one self-contained tree with the `solstone` and `journal` commands; installing it needs `minisign` and the OpenMP runtime first (`sudo apt install minisign libgomp1`, `sudo dnf install minisign libgomp` or `sudo pacman -S minisign gcc-libs`). install it with `curl -fsSL https://solstone.app/install.sh | sh`; a coding agent, or any run without a terminal, uses `curl -fsSL https://solstone.app/install.sh | sh -s -- --components journal`. the installer runs journal setup; follow the setup page it prints instead of running setup again. on mac, the journal app is the only supported journal runtime; install it with `curl -fsSL https://solstone.app/install.sh | sh -s -- --components journal`, or use `--components all` for both mac apps. the installer verifies each release before installing. the two mac apps update themselves. on iphone and ipad (ios or ipados 26 or later), the solstone app is free on the App Store, listed as solstone mobile: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6776850664. on android (8.0 or later), it is free on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.solstone.observer.phone. for a phone without Google Play, the same app, signed by sol pbc, downloads from https://solstone.app/download/android, and that copy doesn't update itself. the phone app pairs with a journal on a mac, windows or linux computer; the journal does not run on the phone. agents connect to a journal from the same computer over MCP (streamable HTTP) at http://127.0.0.1:7659/mcp, on mac, windows and linux. the owner pairs each one in the journal's agents app, at http://localhost:5015/app/agents/ on the journal's computer: connect an agent, on this computer, make a pairing code, then add the journal to the agent. for Claude Code that is `claude mcp add --transport http journal "http://127.0.0.1:7659/mcp"`, then authenticate from `/mcp`. through this connection, an agent can search and read the journal and keep notes of its own there; it can't add, change, or delete anything else. on linux, journal setup adds a solstone skill only where Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI is already set up. after setting up another agent, run `solstone skills install` to add it there too. an agent elsewhere reaches the journal over the owner's wifi or VPN once the owner turns that on, or from anywhere through solstone.me, an address sol pbc runs (https://services.solstone.app/solstone-me), or a tunnel of the owner's own. your journal holds transcripts, people and projects, meetings, a knowledge graph, and daily insights. it is a folder of dated directories. your journal has full-text search, transcript browsing, and calendar views. the project is maintained by sol pbc (https://solpbc.org), a colorado public benefit corporation. the data covenants in its articles of incorporation can't be amended without the founder's personal signature, and after the founder the language can only get stronger, never weaker. any acquisition is conditional: the successor must be legally bound to preserve a substantially equivalent benefit purpose and assume covenants no less protective than article 8. the code is open source. ## Docs - [Get started](https://solstone.app/install): every platform, from installing your journal to connecting your agent - [Integrate](https://solstone.app/integrate): connecting an agent over MCP or building an integration: every tool, what the owner controls, sign-in, limits, and links to the MCP server source - [Install guide](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/INSTALL.md): install guide for a coding agent and human working together - [README](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/README.md): Project overview, architecture, quick start, and CLI reference - [Downloads](https://solstone.app/download): every solstone download, with its version, size and how to check it, plus the App Store and Google Play links. tmux is a separate install. - [Journal structure](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/core/payload/solstone/talent/journal/SKILL.md): Data model and daily directory layout - [AI providers](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/PROVIDERS.md): provider setup - [Web interface](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/CONVEY.md): the web UI for browsing the journal - [Troubleshooting](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/DOCTOR.md): Diagnostics and common issues ## Optional - [Agent runtime](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/CORTEX.md): how the journal's agent templates work - [Message bus](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/CALLOSUM.md): Inter-service communication architecture - [App development](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/APPS.md): Building custom web UI apps - [Roadmap](https://github.com/solpbc/solstone-journal/blob/main/docs/ROADMAP.md): What is planned next
